Beauty of Mind and Soul! A true story of Lupito Nyogo
Beauty of Mind and Soul! A true story
of Lupito Nyogo
Lupita Nyogo, a Kenyan actress
while receiving an Oscar award revealed her childhood story of self-hate for
her complexion and beauty. “When child, I used to pray to the God that I wont
steal sugar cubes at night (of which she was fond of), would listen to every
small word of my mom and wont even forget my jackets in school. But God was not
impressed with my bargains” she uttered during her speech at Oscar awards. She
used to complain every night and day for her beauty and asked for little
fairness. Every day she used to think that some miracle would happen! Everyday used
to see mirror thinking some change would happen with a new morning. As she grew
her self-hate increased! Around her the preference of life-skin prevailed.
One day her mom said which she
remembered forever – i.e. “You cant eat beauty, it doesn’t feed u. “ the
meaning of which she realized later. It meant to her that she cant rely on how
she looks to sustain her.
She later said while taking the Oscars
for her supporting role and Black women in Hollywood award , “It is not the beauty
of skin which matters but the beauty lies in Compassion for urself and for the
world around u. Beauty from within flames the heart and enchant the soul. It is
the beauty of spirit which lives even after beauty of body fades away.”
